A somber mood enveloped Kashenyi cell in Bugongi Town Council, Sheema District during the burial of the late Amanya Macklean, Senior Human Resource Officer for Ibanda Municipality, who passed away on Saturday last week after allegedly being beaten by her husband Amwine Innocent.
Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, Senior presidential advisor on economic affairs expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of domestic violence within communities. He highlighted the alarming frequency of domestic disputes that have led to tragic losses of life among married couples.
The burial service became a poignant tribute to Macklean's life and the impact she had on those around her. Mourners gathered to celebrate her memory, sharing heartfelt stories of her kindness and generosity, offering words of comfort to her grieving family.
In an emotional address to the hundreds gathered, Kapere Ruranga, the father of the deceased, revealed that his daughter did not die a natural death. He called on security operatives to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that justice prevails. Meanwhile, he clarified that the family would not seek revenge.
Rev. Van. Agaba Samson, Archdeacon of St. Luke Bugongi Church of Uganda, encouraged the mourners to practice forgiveness and promote harmonious living among one another.
Amanya Macklean, 42, is survived by two children and her husband. Reports indicate that her children together with her husband's family didn’t attend the burial ceremony, sources said her husband denied her children a chance to bury their mother.
