Minister Barugahara Condemns marrying off young children
Parents
and guardians have been encouraged to educate their children instead of
marrying them off when they are still young. The call has been made by
State Minister of Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi who was
speaking at a Church Conference function organised by Unity of Faith
conference and Association of Military Fellowship consisting of the team
that spreads God’s gospel around the country.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at this function that was
held on Thursday, June 20th at Kazo Model Playground in Kazo Town
Council, Kazo District, Minister Balaam condemned the habit of parents
especially in Ankole region who force their children to get married when they
are still young.
Minister Balaam urged parents and guardians to invest in
education, make sure they educate their children in a way of brightening their
future. He asked security agencies in Kazo District to arrest any parent found
of forcing children to go for marriage or sending them to look for casual jobs
when they are still young.
At this function, Deputy Resident District Commission
Tumukurate Silivestor noted that he has been fighting with an issue of
parents marrying off their children when still young. He said he will continue
to work with other security agencies to fight this vice.
