Ibanda Grade One Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a teenager to six months in prison for stealing money from his grandmother.

Danson Natumanya, an 18-year-old resident of Rwahura in Kashangura Ward, Ibanda Municipality was convicted of stealing Shs.115,000 from his 65-year-old grandmother, Olivia Kobwemi on October 14.

During his appearance before the court, presided over by Her Worship Esther Murungi on November 26, Natumanya requested a lenient sentence, stating that he had learned his lesson while spending over a month in remand at Nyabuhikye Prison.

The magistrate was persuaded by his plea and sentenced him to six months in prison, minus the time served—one month and three days on remand resulting in a remaining sentence of four months and 27 days.

Murungi noted that Natumanya was a first-time offender with the potential for rehabilitation.
