Speaker Among confirms death of Hon Cecelia Ogwal
Speaker Anita Among has confirmed the death of Dokolo District Woman legislator Hon. Atim Ogwal Cecilia Barbara who died at the age of 77. Hon Ogwal passed away this morning in an Indian Hospital and reports indicate she died of Cancer.
According to speaker Among, Hon. Ogwal was a devout Christian who put God first in all her deeds, a distinguished legislator with a strong national outlook, a remarkable public figure, and inspirational advocate for a just and fair society that works for everyone. Speaker Among further said Hon. Cecilia Ogwal had a long distinguished public service career dating back to about 1979 when she was involved in Foreign Service and served in various capacities in numerous public enterprises notably; the Advisory Board on Trade, Housing Finance Bank and Uganda Development Bank.
Hon Ogwal became the Secretary General of the Uganda People’s Congress in 1985, she also represented Lira Municipality from 1996 to 2006 in Parliament and later represented Dokolo District from August 2006 till her death.
Speaker Among has assured to ensure the expeditious repatriation the her remains to Uganda from India where she died from.
