Four arrested in Sheema for refusing to be counted
Police in Sheema District have in custody four people for refusing to take part in the ongoing population and housing census exercise. The suspects include Bamwesigye Gaston 37, Katureebe Evas 50 ,Bahendeka Aida 80, and Subi Yonasan 64 all residents of Kishabya West, Shuuku Town Council in Sheema District.
Greater Bushenyi Region Police Spokesperson, Martial Tumusiime, says the suspcts were arrested on May 16th, 2024. He says the four suspects are the believers of “Engiri’’ they claim can not allow them to be counted adding that Jesus Christ counted them in heaven.
These people say the ‘’Engiri’’ religion they believe in does not allow them to support different government programs like Census, Mass Immunisation, and poverty alleviation programs and does not allow its believers to take shower.
The arrested will be charged with sabotaging government programs. On Tuesday this week, the same police also arrested two people of the same Religion, ‘’Engiri’’ from Bugongi Town Council who also refused to be counted.
