Iran's President among 8 dead in helicopter crash
Iran has declared five days of mourning following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash.
President Raisi together with other 8 officials including the Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were killed in a helicopter crash in North Western Iran on Sunday May 19th, 2024. Raisi, 63, was elected president of Iran in August 5th, 2021.
According to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, there will be five days of mourning following the death of the country's President, Ebrahim Raisi and other officials. Supreme Leader Khamenei, has approved vice president of Iran, Mohammad Mokhber is Iran's interim president and the election of a new president will take place within the next 50 days.
Iran cabinet has also appointed deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani as acting foreign minister. The newly-appointed interim president Mohammad Mokhber has been captured addressing a cabinet meeting in Tehran.
