How is Uganda Prepared? Leader of Opposition asks as floods hit Kenya
Parliament Speaker, Rt. Hon Anita Among has asked the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness to update the nation on how the country is prepared to avert disasters that may happen, following floods that hit Kenya and Tanzania claiming many lives and destroying properties.
Floods have hit Kenya and over 228 people have been confirmed dead, 100 others are now missing while 170,000 are homeless after their they were displaced. While in Parliament today, the Leader of Opposition, Hon Joel Ssenyonyi has asked the government to update Ugandans on its readiness to avert floods that are seen in Kenya and Tanzania, in case the same issue reaches Uganda, citing the rising water levels already happening at Lake Victoria.
Responding to the leader of Opposition, Speaker Anita Among asked the Minister of Disaster Preparedness to update the nation on Uganda’s preparedness to avert any eventual disaster that may happen in Uganda, following floods that hit Kenya and Tanzania claiming lives and destroyed properties.
