Security agencies in Kyenjojo District have apprehended a 43 year old man for attempting to marry off his 16 year old daughter.

The suspect Ruhuga Viane is a resident of Omwibale Village in Kyakatwire Town Council, Kyenjojo District and he is alleged to have attempted to marry off his 16 year old daughter who is also a student of Kyebambe Girls Secondary School.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ruhuga (the farther of the minor) and his wife (the step mother of the girl) had intimidated her to tell authorities that it was her consent to get married. The girl later informed Police saying that she is interested in studies and that it was her farther and step mother who were forcing her to accept the man they sourced for her.

According to State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, Kyenjojo Deputy RDC Allan Bamuha together with District Crime Intelligence, Police-Child and Family Protection Unit, the District Probation and Social Welfare Officer responded to the victim's complaints, evacuated her to a safe place under the care probation officer.

According to police sources, the alleged husband from Ntoroko is on the run, Ruhuga has been arrested and investigations continue.
