Residents and leaders in Mbarara district want Bwizibwera Health Centre IV elevated to a general hospital.
The facility that receives more than 100,000 patients a month according to statistics obtained, is facing challenges that include drug stock outs.
Johnson Mwebembezi, a resident of Bwizibwera Rutooma Town council says at times patients are compelled to wait for long hours while seeking treatment because they come in large numbers. He further says drugs allocated to the facility are not always enough given the huge population.
Juliet Nabakoza, the Mbarara District vice chairperson requests the government to intervene and elevate the facility or establish more facilities to save residents from incurring costs while traveling long distances to reach a few existing health centers which are ever congested with patients.
Dr. Richard Atuhaire, the in charge of the facility says a few health workers have been posted to the facility despite the overwhelming number of patients being accommodated at the facility. Kashari North constituency member of Parliament, Bazil Bataringaya Rwakwene acknowledges the urgent need of elevating the facility to a general hospital in away of improving health services to people.
