Mbarara City Mayor, Robert Mugabe kakyebezi has tipped locals against providing misleading information to enumerators during the forthcoming 2024 National Population and housing Census. Kakyebezi is also concerned that some locals have been telling lies about how the information sourced out of the census will be used.
He said some people are reportedly claiming the data is intended to inform a future decision by the government to increase taxes.
Kakyebezi made these remarks during a media briefing at city council hall on May 7th, ahead of the 2024 National population and housing census that will commence on Friday, May 10th ending May 19th.
The Mbarara Resident City Commissioner, Lt. Col. James Mwesigye assured security during the Census process. Lydia Tuhaise the principal statistician at Uganda Bureau of statistics (UBOS) who also doubles as the Mbarara city census commissioner called upon every Ugandan to stand out and be counted during this coming census exercise that will cover the whole country assuring secrecy of the information provided by the public.
This forthcoming National population and housing census will be held under the theme "it matters to be counted" and it aims to include everyone from homeless street children, prisoners and patients in the hospitals to ensure comprehensive data collection.
