NUP leaders arrested while tempting to celebrate independence
Security has picked up National Unity Platform-NUP party leaders and among arrested is the party Spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, the secretary general Lewis Rubongoya and former Kampala central NUP parliamentary candidate, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu.
The arrest came after NUP leaders informed their party supporters that they will meet at NUP offices in Kamwokye to celebrate independence and pray for the departed souls of their colleagues who died in the struggle.
Security comprising of military and police today morning arrested these NUP leaders while they were at Rubbies Pump fuel station in Kamwokya after addressing journalists on their planned activities to celebrate the independence day at their party headquarters. The arrested were driven in a motor vehicle known as drone and were taken to Kiira Police Station.
According to NUP's president, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the security also arrested Bishop William Tomusange who had come to lead prayers for the souls of departed NUP colleagues. Security haven't issued any statement indicating reasons for the arrest.
