Bushenyi Veterinary Department Suspends Animal Slaughtering
Due to a rise in anthrax cases in Bushenyi district, the veterinary department in collaboration with the security committee has suspended animal slaughtering and the sale of animal products in three sub-counties for a month.
Dr. Roberts Natukunda, the Bushenyi District Veterinary Officer confirmed the suspension after a district security meeting, identifying the affected sub-counties as Kyabugimbi, Kyabugimbi Town Council, and Ruhumuro.
So far, over 12 cases have been reported, with one fatality linked to the outbreak, caused by individuals refusing to adhere to safety measures and consuming dead animals.
Dr. Natukunda urged the public to comply with health guidelines and avoid transferring livestock services to nearby non-quarantined sub-counties. He called on security personnel, local council chairpersons, and the community to cooperate and strictly follow the measures implemented by the committee.
