Ntungamo district have embarked on restoration of Kyabajwa wetland
Authorities in Ntungamo district authorities have embarked on restoration of Kyabajwa wetland located in Kyabajwa village, Itojo Parish in Itojo Sub County—Ntungamo district.
Abraham Atuhaire, an environment officer with Ntungamo district, says over 3 hectares of this wetland are currently encroached on by locals who have been carrying out their farming activities like growing cabages, tomatoes, among others. Atuhaire revealed that such activities are enemies of the environement as they degrade the enviroment, the reason why they want to restore it.
The head of the district natural resources department in Ntungamo, Dinah Tumwebaze, says the technocrats are working closely with the politicians and other authorities to ensure that the existing wetlands are protected while those that have been encroached on are restored.
