Education Minister releases PLE 2023 Results
The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni has officially released the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations.
A total of 749,254 candidates from 15,859 centres
(schools) registered for PLE in 2023 compared to 832,654 in 2022. According to
the Executive Director of Uganda Natonal Examinations Board (UNEB), Dan Odongo
said that an examination centre at Uganda Government Upper Prison School,
Luzira, 69 candidates were registered (as compared to the 68 registerea in
2022). Of the 69 candidates who registered, 60 candidates sat, 2 passed in
Division 1, 32 obtained Division 2, 15 obtained Division 3.5 obtained Division
4, and 6 were ungraded while 9 did not sit for the examination.
Odongo noted that the number of candidates in Division U is quite high, at 88,269 (10.4%), he said they need to find out the causes as to why learners who come in Division U are increasing and address them so as to avoid failures.
The Minister Janet Museveni noted that she has
observed that a number of candidates did not qualify for the PLE certificates
(Ungraded) and has instructed the Permanent Secretary of Education Ministry to
work out something to ensure that such pupils are given an opportunity to
repeat Primary Seven in public schools in away of giving them support.
