Drowning deaths rise
A body of 12-year-old girl has been recovered from a trench filled with running water in Kibali 2 Cell, Budaka Town Council in Budaka District on 12th August 2024.
The deceased has been identified as Nahula Brenda and she reportedly drowned while attempting to cross during a heavy downpour, her body was carried by the water to the Kibali 2 Cell swamp.
In Rwenzori West, another
drowning incident was reported at Nyakakeera Landing Site on Lake
George in Kitagwenda District, where seven fishermen drowned
after their boat capsized due to strong winds and waves. Also
on July 23, 2024, a case of drowning was
reported in Savannah Region, Nakasongola District,
near the Irima landing site in Irima Parish, Kalungi Sub
County. This incident resulted in the loss of two victims
namely; Seromasi William, 32-year-old male fishmonger,
and Muwonge Disan, a 22-year-old and one individual was
rescued from the scene.
Police
Spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke urges individuals traveling on
water bodies to seriously consider using life jackets. In this rainy
season, Kituuma has advised people to exercise caution in
flooded areas to avoid such cases of drowning.
