Sheema Leaders worried about absenteeism of Health workers

Absenteeism, Under Staff Issues affecting Health Services in Sheema

Sheema District Leaders have expressed concern about the increased absenteeism of Health workers and under staff in the district, issues that are now crippling health services in government's health hospitals. The affected Health Facilities include Kyangyenyi Health Centre III, in Kyangyenyi Sub-County, where the Hospital has been operating for 2 years now with under staff of 7 Health Workers instead of the required ones of 18 in a Health Centre III facility.

Rosemary Nyakikongoro, the District Woman Member of Parliament said they have always been receiving complaints from people about the absenteeism of Health workers from different health facilities and wondered why they opt to be absent yet their salaries were enhanced.

Kebaraza Edridah, the Sheema District Health Officer, said the Health Workers who are always absent will have to be disciplined and that they are in touch with Ministry of Health to see they get more Health workers to work in different facilities to curb the under staff problem.

Leaders attribute under staffing on the ban that was slapped on recruitment of new staffs by the Ministry of Public Service which they say has affected health standards in the district.
