Kazo to implement UNEB directive of students to resit UCE
A total of 14,879 candidates countrywide who sat their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations last year did not meet the minimum grade requirements and have been advised to resit the examination. Given the fact that 2023 marked the final year of implementing the old curriculum, candidates receiving their results have been recommended to re-take the examination for advancement to the next academic level.
Following the decision of Uganda National Examinations Board directing District Education officers to identify two suitable centers for those who do not pass their O-levels, under the old lower secondary school curriculum, Kazo district has identified two schools.
According to Agume Robert, the District education officer –Kazo says they selected Kazo Secondary School and Buremba Secondary School noting that these exams were scheduled to begin between June and July 2024. However, Agume says they have received a notice from UNEB to halt the preparations Until further notice.
Professor Celestino Obua, Chairperson of Uganda Examinations Board (UNEB), highlighted that this group will be provided a one-time opportunity to re-sit the examination under the old curriculum. He said the same treatment will be given to candidates who did not register for the 2023 examination, those who registered but did not attend, adult learners studying independently will also be afforded a one-time chance for examination.
