Livestock owners in Mbarara district are worried about the unending livestock theft.
Officials and affected farmers in the district revealed that lack of enforcement policies and enough security personnel has partly facilitated livestock theft.
Mbarara District security committee in collaboration with different stakeholders, issued a ban on night movement and transportation of animals as measure to curb the vice but its enforcement has not been realised.
According to Emmy Katera Turyabagyenyi, the Mbarara Resident District Commissioner, the measure has been frustrated by the small number of security operatives to survey the District.
He says they have intensified operations to curb down the vice and several suspects have been rounded up.
According to police records, from January to June this year, 400 cases of animal theft have been registered in the Rwizi policing region.
The Rwizi policing region covers the districts of Ibanda, Isingiro, Kiruhura, Mbarara, Kazo, Ntungamo, Rwampara and Mbarara city.
